Second Year in a Row for Austin Cityscape in Erie Art Museum Show

For the second year in a row, another cityscape by Daniel Austin, "9th and Parade," has been selected to appear in the 95th Annual Erie Art Museum Spring Show. Jurist Wendy Maruyama, celebrated furniture maker, artist, and educator,  selected 102 works (showcasing 95 artists) to appear out of 643 entries by 294 artists.

"Overall, I tried to show a range of works. There were SO many stellar submissions that it became an issue of rejecting work NOT because it was poor, but because the space has limits, and I personally do not like to see a crowded exhibition. Sometimes I had to shift my strategy on my evaluation process. For example, if there were three paintings I loved but each had, let's say, crows, or trees as a central element, it came down to choosing the strongest depiction overall," declared Murayama in her juror statement.

The show runs from April 21 to July 1, 2018.

Gearing Up for Roslindale Open Studios in 2 days!

Dan and Wendy Austin are hard at work preparing for the big events this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, the community of Roslindale is hosting Roslindale Open Studios, featuring over 90 artists in this Boston neighborhood. Dan's work will be upstairs at the Roslindale Congregational Church, along with about 7 or 8 other artists of different types. From 1-3 Saturday afternoon the Tom Appleman Band will be playing outside the church, with the Trio Ten Tumbao playing Sunday afternoon during the same time frame. The church is at 25 Cummins Highway, but parking will be limited in that area. One of the best places to park will be in the commuter rail parking lot on South St. and Taft Hill, with Conway St. bordering its back end, facing another great location for artists, the Boston School of Modern Languages, 814 South St.. As you make your way over to the Cummins Highway location, you can also visit another building where many artists are clustered, Roslindale House, at 120 Poplar Street. Meanwhile, many other home artists will be opening their studios.
